My Story
My name is Derick Hostetler, I am a wretched man. Odd thing for someone to call themselves I know, but let me explain. Woodworking is all about taking bent, rough, unfinished and undesirable wood and turning it into something beautiful that is not only functional but also points back to the love and care that went into it’s creation. Much like that rough and undesirable wood, I am a man who has been bent and twisted by the sin of the world and my own flesh. I need a creator, to shape me, break my edges, refine my shape, and make me into something that is useful to Him and points back to the love and care that went into making every single person.
“Oh wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Romans 7:24-25
“But God, because of the great love with which he loved us, even while we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5
I love designing creating things with my hands. It’s what lead me down the path of engineering as a career. But, I knew I always wanted to own my own business. After my wife Erica and I had a tree taken down in our yard, I had the log milled up into lumber.
